The technology of blue-dyeing
comes from the thousand-year-old batik work. First
a protective layer is printed on white cotton or linen
with printing block and blue dye can't colour this
protective layer, so the pattern remains white, undyed
there. From the blue dyes that can be found in nature, indigo
appeared in the largest quantities. This is why its use
spread all over the world. The Skorutyák family has lived in the same house and pursued this old trade since 1879. According to the original Contract of Sale my great-grandfather bought this workshop in 1879. From him my grandfather, then my father and in 1969 I took over the ancestral tools, I'm still using them. My son is an electrical engineer, but he knows the history of this trade and the basis of blue-dyeing. Our printing-block set containing 300 patterns can be dated from the days of long ago. It was in Berlin in 1868 that our modelling machine (of Perrotin make) was made. It is still working with the original parts. Our heavy mangle - once operated by horses - comes from my great-grandfather's days. The dye-becks 3 meters deep can be used even today. Parts of my work are helped by up-to-date tools, as well. The tools of blue-dyeing can be observed during working in my workshop that is 300 m2. I regularly receive tourist groups, too. I collect the tools of blue-dyeing and I preserve its traditions. I haven't got secrets of the trade, I'd impart my skill and experience with pleasure. This is why visitors even from remote countries come to me. My activity was reported several times on radio, TV and in the newspapers.
